An exhibition has opened at the House of Lords in London to mark the Union of Parliaments in 1707. It is open to anyone visiting the Palace of Westminster. The exhibition will transfer to the Scottish Parliament, where it will be open to the public from 21 September to 18 November 2007.
The exhibition features five key documents: the Scottish and English copies of the Treaty concluded in 1706, known as the Articles of Union; the Acts of the two parliaments consenting to union, and the ‘Exemplification of Union’, an illuminated copy of the Act passed at Westminster, which Queen Anne gifted to the Scottish Parliament that year. Three of the five documents are on loan from the National Archive of Scotland.
'Making the Act of Union 1707' is a unique opportunity to see historic documents that are not normally on display to the public, and have never before been seen together.
