The sacrifice and loss of life of the First World War is not forgotten and, this week, a huge crowd of Australians assembled to see the dawn of the 92nd anniversary of the landing of troops at Gallipoli, at the Anzac Cove. Documentaries were shown in the hours before sunrise, flags were at half mast and, at dawn, a ceremonial remembrance service took place.
The full story of the campaign were revealed, with readings telling of how the landing troops were under constant fire, were ill-prepared for their first meeting with the Turks, and how many of them were killed before they could make it to the shore. In total there were half a million casualties and 130 000 killed.
